Roles/Responsibilities
Teacher Liaisons are the primary point of contact between the Room Parents and the Teacher/PTA. Liaisons typically take the lead on planning activities and organize information to be distributed to room parents, helpers and families.
Room Parents help with the planning and execution of activities and events and typically volunteer to attend and help out if they can. There can be an unlimited number of Room Parents in each class, however, there is sometimes a limit to how many Room Parents can attend (during in person/virtual parties). It is the goal of the room parents to help the liaisons plan, organize, and facilitate events and activities throughout the year. They can also help set up/organize the collecting of supplies and/or materials.
Class Helpers are often parents/family members who are happy to volunteer to send in $, items, or crafts, but can’t typically attend events during the school day.
Goals
Communicate effectively with families (via email or text)
Streamline communication, keep it simple
Make life easier for the teacher (may not want/need to be involved in all the details)
Communicate purposefully with teacher (have a plan)
Plan activities that stay within the guidelines of set up, completing activity, and cleaning/wrapping up
Put together awesome activities/events!
Use our YES network and utilize resources -- there are a lot of “seasoned” room parents with great ideas!
