My name is DeJuan, I'm an expert student (21 years formally, a lifetime overall) and young educator (10 years, 6 formally) with degrees in General Science, Atmospheric Sciences, and (coming soon) Secondary Education, based in Seattle, Washington. My teaching and tutoring expertise lies mostly in mathematics from middle-elementary school (i.e., 4th grade) through calculus and have worked with learners as young as elementary school and includes a couple of career-changing adults.
I also have experience in physics, chemistry, and biology, with a naturally ever-expanding base spanning the formal, natural, and social sciences and the humanities (so this list will get longer as I continue to teach).
I bring a constructivist bent. How that manifests in my work: the goal is to determine what you--the learner--know or can learn, how you learn, and--critically--how I can best convey a topic, procedure, theorem, or problem for your comprehension. This style allows me to be a versatile educator, so I focus on learner needs--catching up or getting ahead in class, scaffolding an independent course, helping with independent or home curriculum, the standard homework help (with varying degrees of reteaching if desired), or, indeed, cramming for a test.
What I've learned--and continue to learn--is that math is a language of quantifying the Universe. I intend to treat it as such, teach it as such, and I want my learners to be able to utilize it as such with confidence and accuracy.
