For the new year, I really wanted to buy a guitar for myself. As I left my Acoustic in Israel. Luckily, it matched the desire of My son Ran and his companion Batel, and also of my wife's Amira to go on a tour of the CIUDADELA market in Mexico City. As Ran said, "Tell tourists who come to Mexico, do not buy anything, because everything is in CIUDADELA, and cheaper." Indeed, the market is impressive, safe and calm. In any case, in the market I found a charming guitar shop (and similar instruments). I sat there for about an hour, and I saw how different Mariacchi players came with the tools for repair, or take out tools from repair, with an interesting and collegial atmosphere. The workers in the store were surprised that I was from Israel, and they showed me a picture of a former Israeli ambassador for Mexico who came to buy a guitar for her husband. I think it's Rodica Radian Gordon. They told me that the guitar I wanted to buy, worth 100 shekels (28 USD), came from the city of Paracho, which is the center for producing guitars in Mexico.
In the end, they convinced me to take a guitar from their original production (hand made, they produce six guitars a week). I agreed, this one cost NIS 280 (80 USD). Since I play the reverse, with my left hand, they have also adapted the strings and bridge for my needs, and the store employees expressed their desire to visit Jerusalem and Israel for religious reasons: "If we run out of money there, Can we work there?" Before I could answer, another replied,"If we run out of money, we'll make our mariachi show in Jerusalem"
Happy new year.
In the photos: The people building the shop produce guitars manually. And ... a picture of the ambassador with her partner. (They are very proud of this picture)
