About Yebisuya
Yebisuya is the oldest sale brewery in Hiroshima; it was founded in 1603 and continued to brew and sell sake for 400 years until 1995.
A slight musty smell lingers in the Yebisuya. This is due to the koji-mold (aspergillus oryzae) used in sake brewing. We desplay some sake pottery bottles that were used to sell sake in the olden days.
The folk house of Yebisuya has a long history, and the oldest parts of the house were built in the Edo period (1603-1868).
Some of the dishes used to serve the lunch were acquired more than 100 years ago, and were left in the Yebisuya house. The tableware is a "green-lacquered table" that was purchased in 1876.
