Jason Roach is in his 8th year at YBMS. He is a 2008 Graduate of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. He graduated from Dover Area High School in 2004 where he began playing the saxophone at the age of 9, then picked up clarinet, flute, trumpet, drum set and bass guitar in his high school years. Jason has a passion for collecting and playing as many different instruments as possible in various groups. His collection now contains over 30 instruments that comprise of nine saxophones, which include the sopranino sax, C melody sax, and a bass sax.
While attending LVC, he participated in a student lead praise and worship band, HIS (He Is Savior). He also was the drill writer for the 2005-2006 marching band show. During his junior year he became the tuba section leader, playing sousaphone. While Jason is an avid jazz enthusiast he performed in both the small jazz (combo) ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble. While playing with the LVC Jazz ensemble, Jason toured for three years with this group performing on, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, bari saxophone, flute and clarinet. During his senior year, he was a featured soloist with this ensemble.
He completed his Masters of Music in Conducting from Messiah College in 2012.
Jason has performed for legends such as Cyrus Chestnut, John Fedchock, Tierney Sutton, and Chubby Checker. He has studied with local jazz saxophone greats such as, Steve Fieldhouse, Curt Sipe and Tom Strohman. He has performed in many groups and recorded with local musicians such as the Moonlighters Big Band in Lititz, PA. the Messiah College Wind Ensemble in Grantham, PA on Bass sax, contra-bass clarinet and contra-alto clarinet, with the Ben Mauger Roaring 20's Jazz Band, and with the Twin Roses Community Band. His favorite performing experience was playing at Hersheypark from 2007-2017.
Jason currently spends a great deal of time performing with his church praise and worship team where he plays: drum set, bass, sax, synthesizer and runs the sound. He teaches private lessons in the Dillsburg area where he lives with his beautiful wife, Rachel and their children Judah and Harper.
