One of the biggest challenge hospitals face is managing patient administrations. Recording the patient’s data and appointment schedules can be a tiresome task, especially when patients forget about their appointment and have to reschedule or when patients have multiple appointments which may clash. To prevent this, I decided to come up with AlarmRing, to help patients remember their appointments. This product is specially catered for elderly patients without smartphones, or are unable to use them independently, and for elderly patients with multiple appointments and health check-ups. (It is similar to a restaurant wireless pager, used to alert customers to pick up their food.) The AlarmRing must be able to ring at the timing set by the doctor/nurse/ hospital administrative staff. The hospital staff will be able to easily set the patients appointment date via the switches for the patient. The patient can bring the device home and return it to the hospital after use.
I would like to create a device that can help remind the elderly about their medical appointments. This device is designed for elderly patients without access to mobile devices.
The doctors will recommend when the next appointment should be based on the patient's conditions.
As the hospital administrative staff reconfirms the availability of the next appointment with the patient, they will also set and give out the AlarmRings to the elderly patients. They will brief the patient (and the caretaker / family members) on how to use the device.
1. The struggles patients /doctors / nurses / administrative staff face when keeping track of appointments (Interview / survey)
2. Find out current solutions / methods the elderly patients use to remember their appointments through Interviews and Surveys
3. How to use Arduino UNO and LCD keypad shield to create and program a digital clock (with weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds)
4. A solution for doctors, nurses and administrative staff to change alarm clock timing
5. How to create AlarmRing into an actual product to benefit a large group of patients
6. How to come up with the best product design to suit the customer’s needs and is appealing using 3D printing. (Research on product designs for users – consider size, ergonomics.)
