Yapper Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 26, 2026

Yapper is an anonymous, location-based social app. This Privacy Policy explains what information Yapper collects, how it is used, how it is protected, and what choices you have.

Who We Are

Yapper is operated by the developer listed on the Yapper Google Play store listing. For privacy questions, data requests, or account deletion requests, contact us at: contact@yappersocial.com

Information We Collect

Yapper collects and processes the following information:

Account and app identifiers

Yapper uses anonymous Firebase Authentication to create an internal user ID. This ID is used to connect your posts, replies, likes, follows, blocks, reports, settings, moderation status, and in-app rewards to your account. Yapper does not require your real name, email address, or public profile identity to post.

Age information

Yapper asks for your date of birth to confirm that you are at least 13 years old and to apply Teen Safety Mode for users ages 13-17. Yapper stores your age category, age verification status, and teen safety status. Yapper does not use age information for advertising.

If a user indicates they are under 13, account creation is denied and signup may be temporarily locked for that account/device until the user is old enough to use Yapper.

Location information

Yapper asks for foreground location permission to support local feeds, local posting, local post notifications, and approximate distance/radius filtering. Location is rounded before use and is stored server-side for local feed filtering. Yapper does not show exact coordinates to other users.

Public post documents do not expose exact latitude, longitude, or geohash coordinates. Local feed matching is handled on Yapper servers.

If you deny location permission, you may not be able to view or create local yaps, but global features may still work.

User content

Yapper collects content you choose to create or send, including:

Public yaps and replies are visible to other users according to the app's local/global feed rules. Direct messages are private between conversation participants, but Yapper may access them if needed for safety, security, abuse investigation, legal compliance, or service operation.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, Yapper stores an Expo push notification token, notification preferences, platform information, and notification delivery status. This is used to send notifications for replies, direct messages, followed yap activity, and occasional local/global activity alerts.

Moderation and safety data

Yapper stores reports, blocked user records, ban status, moderation actions, and related metadata so we can enforce safety rules, prevent abuse, and respond to harmful content.

Device, diagnostic, and service data

Yapper and its service providers may process technical information needed to operate the app, including authentication state, app version, Firebase/Expo service logs, error information, and security-related records.

How We Use Information

Yapper uses information to:

Yapper does not sell personal or sensitive user data.

Sharing and Service Providers

Yapper uses trusted service providers to operate the app, including:

These providers process information as needed to provide app functionality, security, storage, notifications, and infrastructure. Yapper may also disclose information if required by law, to protect users, to investigate abuse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or business transfer with appropriate notice.

Children and Teens

Yapper is only for users age 13 and older. Users under 13 are not allowed to create an account.

Teen Safety Mode is automatically enabled for users ages 13-17. Teen Safety Mode disables direct/private messaging features. Teen users can still participate in public feeds by posting and replying.

If we learn that a user under 13 has used Yapper, we may delete or disable the account and associated data as required by law and our safety policies.

Data Retention

Yapper keeps information for as long as needed to operate the app, provide features, enforce safety rules, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse.

Examples:

Account Deletion and Data Requests

You may request deletion of your Yapper account and associated data by contacting: contact@yappersocial.com.

When an account is deleted, Yapper will delete or de-identify account data unless retention is needed for safety, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement of our Terms.

Your Choices

You can:

Security

Yapper uses Firebase security rules, server-side Cloud Functions, authentication, access controls, HTTPS, and restricted storage paths to help protect data. No system is perfectly secure, but Yapper is designed to limit access to sensitive data such as private post locations and direct message media.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we may notify users in the app or through the store listing. Continued use of Yapper after an update means you accept the updated policy.
