A semantic network analysis of "The Merchant of Venice" play by Shakespeare
Data source: http://shakespeare.mit.edu/merchant/
Observation: Antonio is the rich entrepreneur who owned plenty of ships. And his buddy, Bassanio, falls in love with Portia, the beauty in the play. So he borrowed money from Antonio to buy Portia a gift. But the ships sunk and Antonio had to borrow money from Shylock, the villain. Antonio wrote, an equivalent to today's personal guarantee that promises Shylock that he will pay back everything owned. To cut the story short, towards the climax Shylock wants Antonio's flesh, and they got caught up in clever courtroom tricks. How genius Shakespeare is.
