About the Universities and Florida
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering was created in 1982 by the Florida Legislature. It is the nation's only joint engineering college shared between two institutions, Florida A\&M University (FAMU) and Florida State University (FSU). FAMU is the highest-ranked public historically Black college and university (HBCU), according to U.S News & World Report 2021 Best Colleges ranking. Founded in 1851, FSU was designated as one of "preeminent" state universities in 2013 by the state legislature. FSU is classified as a Research University with Highest Research Activity (R1) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. In 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranked Florida State as the 19th best public university in the United States. Due to this unique collaboration, the joint College of Engineering is the most research intensive one and the only one that offers PhD programs in all major engineering fields, among 15 HBCU accredited colleges of engineering.
Florida is the 3rd-most populous state in the U.S. and the state has a strong economy, mainly relying on tourism, agriculture, and transportation. With the nickname “Sunshine State”, Florida is also world renowned for beaches and amusement parks. Tallahassee, the home of FSU, is the capital of Florida.
