延 Continuance 2017-1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What exactly is the motivation for you and me to continue?" Often in dealing with life, we come to feel that there are a great many problems in life; there are constant breakages and destruction. I want to use this exhibition to join the viewer in putting forward the question, what kind of person, matter, or thing can be continued...and where does the energy that is able to eternally continue without changing life come from? In "Have the Cries from Deep in Our Hearts Been Heard?" Every piece of work is my cry for help, and the changes in the textures of these works symbolize the circumstantial turning points of these inner cries. "Jesus is willing to hear our cries for help, God is the driving force of my life every single day!" In fact, there had been many red lights in my life lighting up to alert me before I finally discovered that God listens to people's inner calls for help and this became the driving force for my life's continuance, because Jesus came into this world and listened to the barely audible sound of my cries for help. Jesus is the source of all life. He came because he wanted us to have life and have it with more abundance, to allow this saved life to be 'extended' to more people and become a blessing to others. In this, the background poem of the work A River became the final thing I wanted to share with viewers: that the Lord's love is like a river whose majestic power flows to all people. He is a light that lights up my life. "Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life" , comes from the Bible, John 4:14. Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scriptures have said, "rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John, 7:37-38 .
Into a place of crying 2017-2 ----------------------------------------
Jonah prayed to his lord Jehovah in the belly of a fish, and said: "In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me." Jonah 2:2-3. Quoting the story of the devotee Jonah in the Bible became a narrative text. Jonah escaped from God's attention and did not obey God's will, and so was thrown into the belly of a fish by God. Inside, he cried out to God in prayer for three days and three nights. This is also a metaphor to point out that there are some abstract presentations in life that are relatively inward and immanent. The picture's composition depicts a dark, disorderly, melancholy air, an abstract shape of a large area of black, as if in hell. The materials used were kitchen cooking foil, plus gauze. In terms of form, the creative work is not a neat collage, but a disorderly and irregular curve. The cloth is made of hemp as its base material, upon which a large amount of mixed wood chips, gravel, and 'hemp' were put in the oils, which are also indicative in the Bible, symbolizing cries for help and prayer in times of suffering. During this period of time, I was faced with the onslaught of a relative and a friend having cancer, and so felt in my heart this process Jonah had gone through, crying out to God for mercy while in the belly of a dark fish .
Dialogue with Esther 2017-3 ---------------------------------------
This is a text from the Old Testament. The story tells of a Jew named Mordecai begging Queen Esther to help save her people. Esther must risk her life by going before the king and completing the process of saving the Jewish people with a do-or- die determination. It is recorded in the Bible that: "When Mordecai learned all that had happened, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the midst of the city. He cried out with a loud and bitter cry. He went as far as the front of the king's gate, for no one may enter the king's gate clothed with sackcloth. And in every province where the king's command and decree arrived, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes. So, Esther's maids and eunuchs came and told her, and the queen was deeply distressed. "Esther 4:1-4" he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the midst of the city. He cried out with a loud and bitter cry. "This piece of narration served as the creator's materials, and in operational terms hemp was used as the main material, while tearing was a creative technique used with a deep inner anguish. The collage text on the work repeats,“I know you didn't attain the position of queen for of the present opportunity?”“If the king finds you beautiful”“If you want to die, you will die!”It all falls on her to save the life of her people. In terms of materials, I specially used rough, burned, ripped, and broken materials to have communicate dialog with the difficult circumstances of Esther's dialog
