May 2025: Congratulations to Xiaoyu Chen for receiving the Grainger Senior Scholarship, awarded to "a junior who is majoring in physics who shows particular interest and aptitude in the laboratory as well as outstanding proficiency in formal coursework". This award provides a full tuition scholarship for the senior year.
Also, congrats to the KAg team for achieving efficient lambda-enhanced D1 grey molasses on potassium, less than 1 week after first attempting it! Temperatures cooled from mK to ~10uK!
March 2025: Less than a month after our lab move, we have our first MOT of silver atoms trapped simultaneously with potassium! We are officially a dual species experiment.
February 2025: Congrats to Xiaoyu and Tanvi for receiving the Quad Undergraduate Research Scholar award!
Also, our laboratory moved to our permanent home in the sub-basement of GCIS. We now have ~1700 square feet of prime research space!
October 2024: We are thrilled and honored to receive a 2024 Packard Foundation fellowship! Here is the university press release. #PackardFellows
Also, Tanvi and Ken have joined the lab as undergrad researchers. Welcome!
On the experiment side, we've achieved our first optical trap of potassium atoms.
September 2024: Welcome to our new PhD students, Nachiket and Angela! They're joining us just after we got our first cold potassium atoms (pictured below).
First signal of cold K-39 atoms loaded in a magneto-optical trap.
June 2024: Congrats to Ana for receiving the Metcalf Fellowship and Xiaoyu for receiving the Quad Summer Research Fellowship!
Also, our work on collective oscillations in a Bose-Fermi mixture is published in Nature Physics! Congrats to the team at MIT, Harvard, and ETH.
In the lab, the potassium and silver laser systems have been built and locked. Next step: cold silver atoms!
May 2024: Our work on polarons in a Fermi-Hubbard simulator is published in Nature! Congrats to the entire Princeton team.
January 2024: We are hard at work building the ultrahigh vacuum apparatus!
November 2023: There were over 180 attendants at the 2023 Midwest Cold Atom Workshop! Thanks to Cheng, Dave, Hannes, our industry partners, and the staff/students who made this event possible.
October 2023: Ana Elias and Xiaoyu Chen have joined the lab as undergraduate researchers. We're excited to have them!
September 2023: Michael Vayninger has joined the lab as a PhD student in physics. Welcome!
August 2023: Zoe has been selected as the laureate for the Blavatnik Regional Award for Physical Sciences.
July 2023: We're moving into the Gordon Center for Integrated Science soon; stay tuned!
