Warmer
The teacher will write on the board the word “Internet” and then will stick the following pictures around it:
She will encourage students to make predictions as to what these pictures refer to (and write them below the pictures) and also as to what the topic for the lesson is: Internet Safety. Then, she will also ask students if they can come up with other measures one should take into account when using the internet

Students are given the following article https://www.unicef.org/bulgaria/en/stories/staying-safe-online . Learners will be asked to make predictions as to what the article is about by having a look at the title and picture. They will also be asked if they think the source is reliable and if the article is updated.
Learners will be encouraged to scan the text and complete the following photocopy in which they have to add the definition and the collocations of the terms that appear on the article. Learners will be encouraged to get the meaning of the words from the context, but if they find that challenging (especially finding the correct collocations), they will be allowed to use https://dictionary.cambridge.org/

What’s next
Students are divided into groups of three in order to discuss the following questions: “Do you agree with the tips given by the article?” “What tip is the most important one?” “What other tips would you suggest adding?”
Each team will later on use Powerpoint to create a presentation about the dos and don’ts of Internet Safety with ideas from the article and ideas of their own. Then, the following week, they can deliver this presentation to lower form students who are just starting to use the internet.

Objectives: by the end of this lesson students will be able to:
link the information provided by the text to their previous knowledge and apply it to different real-life contexts
identify the different types of cyberbullying
create an infographic about the different types of cyberbullying and what to do if you’re a victim of it
The teacher will elicit from students what the topic dealt with last class was: internet safety. We will all brainstorm together the different
tips we learnt about, such as not sharing personal information or reporting negative/offensive comments or materials.

The teacher will show the following video up to minute 0:35 Cyber Bullying She will elicit from students what the topic for the
class is: cyberbullying. The teacher will ask students what they know from this topic and then will ask them to connect cyberbullying
to what we discussed last class such as reporting material that hurts us, blocking a person or changing our privacy settings.

respond) we will discuss the title and the pictures to predict what it is about. The teacher will bring students’ attention to the
different sections. We will together predict what the answers to these questions may be. Then, students will be allotted some time
to read the article and check their predictions.

What’s next
Students will be divided into four groups. Each group will represent a type of cyberbullying. They will be encouraged to look up more information about the specific type of cyberbullying they were assigned on www.wikihow.com and on some newspapers such as www.theguardian.com or www.bbc.com then they will create an infographic on https://infograph.venngage.com/signin in which they will include information about the cyberbullying they were assigned and what to do if someone is a victim of cyberbullying. These infographics will be displayed in the school hallway to raise awareness.
