We welcome graduate students and postdoc researchers. About a half of our lab members are non-Japanese, and our official language in our lab meetings is English. We usually accept students who have secured sufficient financial support to live in Japan. For scholarship / fellowship, we recommend you apply for MEXT scholarship (for master's and PhD students) and/or JSPS fellowship (for PhD students and postdocs). Kyoto University also provides some fellowship oppotunities such as the DoGS SPRING program.

When you are interested in joining in our lab, please send your CV and motivation letter to Shinya Yamamoto. Note that we can basically accept students/researchers at Kumamoto Sanctuary (captive chimpanzee and bonobo site) only after applicants come to see the environment, have discussion with us on site, and mutually agree about several conditions. We also recommend having a certain level of understanding of Japanese culture beforehand. Difficulties in daily life due to cultural differences are expected, not just linguistic barriers. 大学院生（修士・博士後期課程）・ポスドクを募集しています。大学院生は、京都大学 理学研究科 生物科学専攻 霊長類学・野生動物系に所属し、野生動物研究センター（WRC）を拠点に研究活動をおこないます。ポスドクは京都大学人と社会の未来研究院に所属し、WRCとも連携・協力しながら研究します。大学院入試については、理学研究科生物科学専攻の院試関連サイトおよびWRCのウェブサイトをご覧ください。

まずは私たちがどのような研究をしているのかをこのウェブサイトなどで確認してください。動物の社会性に関することであればテーマも手法も幅広く扱っています。最近では、オキシトシンをはじめとするホルモンの投与・計測実験、アイトラッカーを用いた社会的認知に関する実験、ドローンによる集団行動の観察、集団内・集団間の社会ネットワーク分析と行動伝播、などで論文を発表しました。指導教員（山本）の専門は、問われれば「比較認知科学」と答えていますが、これまで野外フィールドワーク・実験室認知研究のどちらもおこなってきており、分野の枠にはとらわれていません。研究内容によっては、それぞれの分野を専門とする国内外の他の研究者と協力しながら研究を進めています。

注）熊本サンクチュアリでのチンパンジー・ボノボ研究は、実際に熊本に来て現場を見ながら双方が同意した場合のみ受入が可能です。

具体的な研究テーマは決まっていなくてもかまいませんが、学生からの自主的な研究提案を期待します。そのうえで、実現可能性やラボとのマッチングを考えながら研究テーマを相談しましょう。私のラボには、学生自身がゼロから考えたテーマで研究している人もいれば、教員がいくつか提示したテーマの中から興味のあるものを選んで発展させている学生もいます。後者のテーマの決め方を、「大学院生の自由な発想が妨げられる」と否定的に考える人もいるかもしれませんが、私は必ずしもそうだとは考えていません。どちらにも一長一短があると思っています。それぞれの学生に合った方法を一緒に見つけていければと思っています。

ラボメンバーの約半数が留学生です。隔週でおこなっているラボミーティング（ゼミ）の公用語は英語です。やる気があれば、英語が苦手でもかまいません。現在ラボミーティングはZoomでおこなっています。見学・聴講も可能ですので、興味があれば山本までご連絡ください。
