From ideas to impact

• Co-development and presentation of solution ideas through group challenges, where participants worked in teams to respond to agrifood system challenges across sustainability, innovation, and inclusion, moving from initial concepts to structured proposals.

• Direct exposure to implementation realities through a field visit to a Moroccan cattle farm, allowing participants to test assumptions against real production systems and identify practical constraints and opportunities.

• Development of forward-looking perspectives through a foresight exercise, where participants assessed possible futures for agrifood systems in the region and defined the roles they could play within those scenarios.

• Application of systems thinking through structured leadership exercises, including role-play sessions designed to simulate competing interests and perspectives, strengthening participants’ ability to navigate trade-offs, build consensus, and make decisions in complex environments.

• Exploration of integrated system challenges, including the agriculture–water–energy nexus, and emerging approaches such as controlled environment agriculture and resource-efficient production models, linking technical knowledge to broader system-level solutions.

• Strengthening of collaboration pathways through sessions on partnerships and engagement with FAO initiatives, including understanding access to technical support, visibility, and potential funding mechanisms.

• Formation of cross-country and cross-sector connections through continuous group work and shared outputs, resulting in an active network of participants positioned for continued collaboration beyond the programme.
