This original design was based on a common toy xylophone. All the 3D models were done on Autodesk's Fusion 360.
Our first idea for the pressure sensors were to put them at the bottom of the keys, This is the 3D model for that design. As seen above, the sensor is directly underneath the first xylophone key.
We soon realized that for a pressure sensor to work, there needs to be pressure on both sides, so we decided to change the design such that the sensors were on top of the keys. This would allow the sensor to be activated by the mallet on top, and the key on the bottom.
We decided to put a button to the end of the xylophone design so as to add an extra aspect of the toy. The button's purpose was to switch the colors on the Xylumos.
Our final design was modified such that the pressure sensors were placed in between two identical keys, as seen by the layering of the keys. This design was ideal for manufacturing.
