The Inter-University Center for Philosophy and Foundations of Physics, the University of Urbino "Carlo Bo", Department of Pure and Applied Sciences, and the Italian Society for Logic and Philosophy of Science are happy to announce the

XXV International Summer School in Philosophy of Physics

Dualities Between Physics and Philosphy

The XXV International Summer School in Philosophy of Physics of the University of Urbino will focus on a crucial topic of research in physics and philosophy: dualities, in particular in their gauge/gravity incarnation, and their philosophical implications.

This topic has manifold ramifications, both for physics and for philosophy, as our speakers will show. The three speakers are professor Jonathan Bain (Department of Technology, Culture and Society/Philosophy Department, NYU), professor Johanna Erdmenger (Physics Department, University of Würzburg), and professor Sebastian De Haro (Philosophy Department, UvA).

This year the School also offers to young researchers interested in the topic of Dualities and their philosophical implications the opportunity to test their skills by presenting their original papers to the other participants of the School in an end-of-school workshop, which will also feature Jeremy Butterfield (Philosophy Department, University of Cambridge) and Baptiste Le Bihan (Philosophy Department, University of Geneva) as senior speakers.

Overall, this year's School offers an invaluable opportunity for students and scholars to learn about Dualities and their philosophy.

Note that while at this moment we expect to be able to hold the school in person safely, we are closely monitoring the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic and have already prepared contingency plans to hold the school online in case having it in person were impossible.

Also, for those that do not feel safe attending in-person events, keep in mind that the school will be in hybrid format, i.e. there will be an option to follow the school online.
