Call for Participation
Overview
The 1st Workshop on Extended Reality for Knowledge Work (xrWORKS) aims to bring together researchers interested in using extended reality technologies for supporting knowledge work. This workshop aims to create a space where both academic and industry researchers can discuss their experiences and visions to continue growing the impact of XR in the future of work. Through a combination of position papers, in-person demonstrations, and a brainstorming session, we aim to reach a more complete understanding of the space and debate future research agenda.
There are three ways of participating in this workshop:
Submitting a position paper, which will be reviewed by the organizers and published under IEEE VR workshop proceedings at the IEEE Xplore digital library.
Submitting a demo, which will be presented in person at the conference but does not require an abstract by itself and will not appear in the proceedings.
As a general attendee, welcome to discuss their experiences on XR for knowledge work without a submission.
While papers and demos can be submitted independently, we encourage the authors of accepted position papers with a prototype to demo them during the workshop.
Topics of Interest
Topics of the workshop revolve around the use of extended reality technologies for knowledge work (also referred to as office or productivity work). Key topics include, but are not limited to:
design of novel approaches to enhance knowledge work through XR
prototypes demonstrating how XR can be used for knowledge work
how to perform meaningful evaluations of XR systems for knowledge work
social acceptability of using XR in work settings (including remote)
long-term effects of working in XR and/or mitigation strategies
benefits, challenges, and opportunities of using XR for knowledge work

Submission Guidelines
Attendees who wish may contribute with a position paper and/or a demonstration of their prototype(s):
Attendees who wish may contribute an abstract of up to two pages (excluding refs), similar in format to a poster abstract, using the VGTC conference paper template. Longer position papers will also be considered. The organizers will select these based on fitting the workshop's topic and merit.
Attendees who wish to demonstrate their prototypes may submit a paragraph on Google Forms describing their prototype and requirements for the demonstration (space, power, table/chairs, devices). The organizers will select these based on fitting the workshop's topic and feasibility/logistics.
Submission process
The paper peer-review process is single-blind (the identities of the reviewers are not known to the authors, but the reviewers know the identities of the authors).
The demos will be checked for fitting and feasibility by the organizers before being selected.
Please kindly send your submission directly to this email address: xrworks@googlegroups.com
