On each day that Parliament sits we need a name on the rota. That could be the name of a local XR Group, a Working Group, a Regional Group or an individual.
That group or individual will be responsible for maintaining a presence at Carriage Gate for the core hours (11am-3pm) that day to protest against successive governments' climate inaction and to engage members of both houses of parliament and the general public (who send them there) in conversation.
Whilst anybody is welcome to join the protest we ask that only XR Groups sign up to take the lead and that in the case of individuals they have completed an XR New Members induction and one other XR Training (DNA, NVDA, Action Planning, Regen etc).
Beyond the core hours, protesting and conversation each group or individual will make the day their own. Starting earlier, finishing later - that's all fine. Bringing theatre, music, debate is encouraged. Dressing up or dressing down. Standing up or sitting down. Each day will be different but have at it's core Extinction Rebellion's unique creativity in making the Three Demands.
It's by no means necessary but you might want to check the Parliamentary Calendar for the day you're coming.
We do ask that the protest remains lawful in order that it may continue. Some of the laws governing what may or may not happen in the parliamentary precincts are hundreds of years old and frankly peculiar. Please seek guidance if you are in doubt. Either from the group responsible for maintaining this action or from the officers of the crown at Parliament who are charged with enforcing them.
