These Terms of Service govern the purchase, download and use of XR Hardware Check.
XR Hardware Check is operated by:

By purchasing, downloading or using XR Hardware Check, you agree to these Terms.
You must be legally permitted to use the Meta Horizon Store and enter into this agreement.
Where a user is not legally able to enter into this agreement independently, a parent or legal guardian must approve the purchase and use of the app.
Subject to these Terms and the applicable Meta Store rules, you receive a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use XR Hardware Check on supported devices connected to an authorised Meta account.
The app is licensed and not sold.
You must not:
Redistribute or resell the app
Rent or sublicense the app
Share the app outside methods permitted by Meta
Bypass Store entitlement or security systems
Modify or reverse engineer the app except where applicable law expressly permits it
Use the app for unlawful purposes
Misrepresent its results as a certified professional diagnosis
XR Hardware Check is an informational and user-guided diagnostic utility for supported Meta Quest headsets.
Its features may include:
Display colour and pattern tests
Speaker-channel tests
Audio tones and frequency sweeps
Pointer and panel-input tests
Battery and charging information
Thermal-status information
Memory and storage information
Reported refresh-rate information
Application panel frame-cadence information
Guided diagnostic checklists
Locally saved diagnostic reports
App-window brightness controls
Long-session monitoring
Available features and reported values may vary depending on the headset, Android version and Horizon OS version.
XR Hardware Check is not:
A Meta-authorised repair service
A manufacturer-certified testing tool
A guarantee that a headset is free from defects
Professional engineering or safety advice
A replacement for inspection by Meta or an authorised service provider
Some diagnostic results depend on the user’s own observations and checklist selections.
A passed result does not guarantee that no hardware defect exists.
A failed or unusual result does not necessarily prove that the headset is defective.
“Panel FPS” measures an estimate of XR Hardware Check’s own Android frame-callback cadence.
It does not measure:
Another game’s FPS
Another application’s performance
The Horizon OS compositor
System-wide rendering performance
Complete GPU performance
Panel FPS readings may be influenced by the operating system, panel state and measurement method.
Current display patterns are shown within the XR Hardware Check application panel.
They do not necessarily cover:
The headset’s complete field of view
Every physical display pixel
Lens clarity across all viewing angles
Physical display resolution
Eye-buffer resolution
All possible display defects
Users should contact Meta or an authorised service provider where they suspect a serious display fault.
The current panel-based Input page may test:
Pointer selection
Selection accuracy
Scrolling
Android key events
Android motion events
Other events exposed to the application panel
It does not provide a complete test of:
Every Touch-controller button
Trigger or grip response
Thumbstick drift
Tracking accuracy
Controller battery health
Haptic hardware
More advanced immersive tests may be added in future, but no future feature or release date is guaranteed.
XR Hardware Check may adjust settings that Android and Horizon OS permit the app to control, such as:
The app window’s brightness
Whether the display remains awake while the app is open
Opening an available system-settings page
The app cannot guarantee direct control over:
Global headset refresh rate
Physical display resolution
Eye-buffer resolution
Restricted Horizon OS settings
Settings removed or changed by an operating-system update
Read-only information displayed by the app should not be interpreted as proof that the app can modify the underlying system value.
Saved diagnostic reports are stored locally on the user’s headset.
Users are responsible for protecting access to their headset and maintaining any information they wish to keep.
Reports may be permanently lost where:
The user deletes them
App data is cleared
The app is uninstalled
The headset is factory reset
Storage becomes corrupted
An operating-system update removes local data
XR Hardware Check does not provide cloud backups or remote report recovery.
Purchases, payment processing, Store licences and refunds are administered through Meta.
Refund requests should be submitted through the applicable Meta Horizon Store process.
Nothing in these Terms removes statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
UK law provides mandatory protections for paid digital content, including requirements relating to satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose and matching its description.
XR Hardware Check may be distributed as an Early Access product.
This means:
Features may be incomplete
Bugs may remain
The interface may change
Compatibility may change
Some readings may not be available on every device
Planned features may be changed, delayed or cancelled
Updates, fixes and new features may be provided, but no particular update, feature or release date is promised.
The operator may release updates to:
Fix bugs
Improve performance
Add or remove features
Maintain compatibility
Address security issues
Meet Meta platform requirements
Comply with legal requirements
Some updates may be required for continued use.
Continuous availability is not guaranteed.
The app may be interrupted, restricted or removed because of:
Maintenance
Security concerns
Device incompatibility
Horizon OS changes
Meta platform or Store changes
Legal requirements
Events outside the operator’s reasonable control
XR Hardware Check’s original software, interface, artwork, branding and content are owned by or licensed to Alfie Mckiernan.
These Terms do not transfer ownership of intellectual-property rights to the user.
Meta, Meta Quest, Horizon OS and associated names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
XR Hardware Check is an independent product and is not presented as being manufactured, endorsed or certified by Meta unless expressly stated otherwise.
To the extent permitted by law, no guarantee is made that:
Every hardware defect will be detected
Every reading will be completely accurate
Every test will work on every headset
The app will always be error-free
Saved reports will never be lost
A passed test confirms that a device is safe or defect-free
Where a headset shows signs of physical damage, battery swelling, excessive heat, smoke, unusual odours or another potential safety issue, users should stop using it and follow the manufacturer’s safety and support guidance.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for:
Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
Death or personal injury caused by negligence
Mandatory consumer rights
Any other liability that cannot legally be excluded
Subject to those protections and to the extent permitted by law, the operator is not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable losses arising from:
Reliance on a diagnostic result
Failure to identify a hardware defect
Loss of locally saved reports
Unsupported device modifications
Operating-system or platform changes
Failure to follow manufacturer guidance
The licence may be terminated where the user:
Materially breaches these Terms
Uses the app unlawfully
Attempts to bypass licensing or security systems
Redistributes the app without permission
Creates a serious security risk
When the licence ends, the user must stop using the app.
Terms intended to continue after termination, including intellectual-property and liability provisions, will remain effective.
These Terms may be updated to reflect:
App changes
Platform requirements
Security concerns
Legal or regulatory changes
New features or services
The current version will be published on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
Where appropriate, significant changes may also be communicated through the app or its Store listing.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Users living elsewhere continue to benefit from any mandatory consumer protections that apply in their country of residence.
Nothing in these Terms removes a consumer’s right to use a court or dispute-resolution process available under applicable law.
