I am minoring in Technical and Professional Writing (or formally the Professional Writing and Rhetoric at SFSU) as part of my undergraduate studies. Here, I will post the assignments I worked on in my classes as part as my portfolio to showcase some of my works.
This is my portfolio uploaded as one document. Individual samples are listed down below!
For this assignment, we were asked to create a tutorial for a screen-capturing software called SnagIt. The tutorial is written for an imaginary scenario: the audience is new, entry-level technical writers starting out at the publication group at a made-up company. The requirements for this assignment included the following:
Capture several standard windows screen shots. Keep some at their normal dimensions; resize some of them; crop some of them. Store them all so that someone coming back to these files later will know that they are related to each other (preferably in relation to some project).
Capture and store a series of related scrolling web pages.
Create and edit a short video.
A large portion of this assignment involved getting feedback from the instructor, other classmates, and a test subject not part of this class that tests the tutorial for its usability.
After writing the first draft of the tutorial, it was submitted for feedback and I created surveys for the test subjects to answer while they go through the tutorial. The survey contained questions asking for feedback for each lesson in the tutorial. Questions included whether the steps in the tutorial were clear and easy to understand, the quality of the figures (images), if the layout was effective, etc.
The final draft of the tutorial implements the feedback received from the surveys.
