# Privacy Policy for XML Viewer
**Last updated:** 8 August 2026
XML Viewer ("the app") is developed and published by MD Developer Studio
("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what happens to information when you
use the app.
---
## The short version
- **Your XML files stay on your phone.** We never upload, transmit, read or
store the contents of any file you open.
- **We have no servers and no accounts.** There is nothing to sign in to, and we
hold no database about you.
- **The app shows advertisements**, supplied by Google AdMob. Google collects
some information in order to serve them. That is the only third party that
receives anything.
- **The app needs an internet connection to start**, and checks Google Play for
updates.
Everything below is the detailed version of those four points.
---
## 1. Your documents
XML Viewer opens XML files that you choose, that another app shares with it, or
that you paste in. When you open a file:
- A copy is placed in the app's own private storage area on your device, so the
file can be reopened reliably later.
- The file is read, parsed, displayed, searched, edited and exported **entirely
on your device**.
- **No part of any document is ever sent over the internet.** There is no
server-side processing, no cloud conversion, and no analytics of file
contents.
If you export a file (to PDF, JSON, HTML, CSV, plain text) or share it, the
result goes wherever *you* direct it, using your device's own file chooser or
share sheet. We are not involved in and have no visibility of that transfer.
**Deleting this data:** everything the app stores about your documents lives in
its private storage. Clearing the app's storage (Android Settings → Apps → XML
Viewer → Storage → Clear storage) or uninstalling the app removes all of it
permanently.
---
## 2. Information stored on your device
The app saves the following locally. None of it is transmitted to us.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| A list of recently opened files (name, size, path, when opened) | So you can reopen them from the home screen |
| Cached copies of opened files | So reopening a file cannot fail later |
| Unsaved edits ("drafts") | So your work survives the app being closed or interrupted |
| Backup copies of files you save (`.bak`) | So a save can be undone if something goes wrong |
| Your settings (theme, text size, row density, line wrap, syntax colours) | To remember your preferences |
| Whether you have rated the app, and how many files you have saved | So the rating prompt appears at a sensible time and stops once you have rated |
---
## 3. Permissions the app requests
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| **Internet** | To show advertisements, check for updates on Google Play, and verify you have a working connection |
| **Network state** | To detect whether your device is online or offline |
The app does **not** request access to your contacts, camera, microphone,
precise location, call logs, SMS, or health data. It reads only the specific
files you choose to open.
---
## 4. Advertising
The app displays advertisements provided by **Google AdMob**.
To serve ads, Google may collect and process:
- Your device's **advertising ID**
- **IP address**, and an approximate location derived from it
- Device information such as model, operating system version and language
- Interaction with the ads themselves
This information is collected by Google, not by us. We never receive it, and we
cannot connect it to you.
Google's handling of this data is described here:
- Google Privacy Policy — https://policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services —
https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
**Your controls.** On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID, and
opt out of personalised advertising, at any time:
**Settings → Privacy → Ads** (the exact path varies by device and Android
version). Doing so does not stop ads appearing; it stops them being tailored to
you.
---
## 5. Google Play services
The app uses two Google Play features:
- **In-app updates** — the app asks Google Play whether a newer version exists.
No information about you or your files is sent.
- **In-app review** — if you choose to rate the app, Google Play handles the
review submission. Your review is governed by Google's terms, not ours. The
star rating you give inside the app is stored only on your device.
---
## 6. Connection check
When the app starts, it confirms that your device can actually reach the
internet by performing a DNS lookup against well-known public DNS servers
(`one.one.one.one` and `dns.google`). This sends no information about you or
your files — it only establishes whether a connection exists.
---
## 7. Analytics and tracking
The app contains **no analytics SDK, no tracking pixels, and no crash-reporting
service**. We do not measure how you use the app, which files you open, or how
long you spend in it.
If this changes in a future version, this policy will be updated before that
version is released.
---
## 8. Children
The app is a utility for viewing XML files and is not directed at children. It
is rated for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal
information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has
provided personal information through the advertising services described above,
please contact us and we will help you raise it with Google.
---
## 9. Security
Because your documents never leave your device, the main protection is your
device itself. Files cached by the app are stored in Android's private
per-app storage, which other apps cannot read.
No method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee
absolute security of information held on your device.
---
## 10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information —
to access it, correct it, or have it deleted.
Because we hold no personal information about you on any server, there is
nothing for us to retrieve or erase. All data the app creates is on your device
and is fully under your control: clear the app's storage or uninstall it, and
it is gone.

Google's own privacy controls at https://myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy
---
## 11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The "Last updated" date at the
top will always reflect the current version. Material changes will be
accompanied by a note in the app's update description on Google Play.
