Hi there, my name is Xin Tong. I go by Zinc.
Welcome to my portfolio. What you're about to see is a few selection of the work I took over the years.
Four years ago, I bought a DSLR out of curiosity, and then began my self-learned photography journey. I like to document places I go and people I meet through the eyes of the lens, but most of the times this step only happens after my eyes and my heart have felt something. That means there are always interesting stories behind every photo you see here.
With that being said, please enjoy. Don't forget to let me know your thoughts about them.
To be honest, the first time I picked up an actual DSLR camera was because I wanted to photograph people, interesting people.
That intention has always been there, but my focus has changed over the years. At first, I only knew to push shutter whenever I see fit, and mostly just stayed on the auto function. But thanks to a fellow musical theater fan who taught me the basics of manual function, my skills have improved significantly. Over time, my focus was not just on the skills anymore, but I started to pay attention to people's faces, when do they have the most interesting faces, and how to inspire them to show different sides of their personalities.
I love taking studio portraits the most, because it tells the most about a person.
I'm not someone who likes to snap a shot everywhere I go, but when I do it's because this particular scene really makes me feel something. Behind every photo in this category, there are stories, intentions, and feelings. They tell a lot about who I am at that point.
Let's face it. I can't fool anyone. Just like many people, the real reason I picked up a camera in the first place was because I wanted to take pictures of celebrities and showed off to my friends. But who would have guessed that this pretentious little hobby became my basic photography training eventually?
I love animals with giant stature that I can see them as another fellow human being, like horses.
I'm often mesmerized by how deep their eyes are. When I'm with them, I'm convinced they're the ones who are taking care of me, instead of me trying to command them. Horses taught me how to build a relationship with another being like no other person ever did.
All the world is a stage,
And all the men and women are merely players.
