I am a music lover. Well, who isn't? :) On this page I will recommend some musicians that I like, with a special emphasis on artists from my region, and on metal and rock bands. Enjoy!

萨满
The Samans
The Samans (i.e., "Shamans") is an extremely creative band from our region, where you can find all kinds of elements across rock and metal. Many of their songs adapt from themes from other cultures, yet with intriguing analogies to our culture and history. And yes, (some flavor of) shamanism is a part of our culture; many wild animals are considered sacred.

二手玫瑰
Second Hand Rose
Second Hand Rose is a visual rock band from our region, with a very organic twist of our local folk performance, errenzhuan, both in performance styles and instruments. This folk performance is believed to have received both Manchu and Northern Han influence, highlighting the multi-cultural nature of the region. It is very encouraging to see them gaining mainstream popularity in China nowadays given the long-standing stigmatization of our signature folk performance.

鹅的思想
Goose Thought
Goose Thought is an emerging post-punk band from my hometown, Shenyang. Some say they have a strong krautrock flavor, but let's wait and see how it goes. They already unapologetically demonstrated their local identity in their debut album, by the track of Premium Asia Express (特级亚细亚号), referring to the express train that ran on this land 1934-1943, which was the fastest in Asia at that time.
惘闻
Wang Wen
Wang Wen is a post-rock band from Dalian, a city that may or may not self-identify with our region. :) Their works are simply amazing. The piece centered on the Dalian city Silenced Dalian (大连,勿语) highlights its complicated and heartbreaking history.
吾人文化
Wuren Wenhua
Wuren Wenhua is a hip hop recording label launched in 2009, many of whose members are now non-negligible figures in the local and broader hip hop scene in China. Their music spans a wide range of themes, from university life, to local cultural references, and to the stigmatization of people from our region.
卡玛萨室内乐团
Karmasisa Ansambli
Karmasisa Ansambli is one of a kind. Their work make use of traditional instruments in the Manchurian and Mongolian regions. Some of their works also feature Western instruments at the same time. They sing in the Manchu language, which is very much endangered nowadays.
泥塑上帝
Soilgodliness
Soilgodliness is a post-rock band also from my hometown, Shenyang. Although they from time to time talk about coming from an industrial city, their work appears to heavily refer to natural phenomena (e.g., rain, growth, and stars). I can't help but associate their work with the awe for nature despite being in an industrial city, which I would say captures something really deep about the region.

冻结的月亮
Frozen Moon
Frozen Moon is a black metal band from our region, with extremely creative usage of some traditional instruments, just like Second Hand Rose. They set many of their works in the context of the short-lived regime of Dongdan (926-936 AD).

麻伊
Mayi
A rising rapper from Jilin. Recently he started some nice experiments merging drill together with our dialect (not on his Spotify yet); really creative guy! One of his works focuses on one of the major rivers in our region, the Sungari River.

粗糙影像
Rough Image
Krautrock band from Changchun, Jilin. Krautrock is (finally) taking off back home???
九莲
Jiulian
It's very hard to rap with Northeastern Mandarin, but luckily we now have rappers like Jiulian who perfectly nailed it. 二舅妈疯狂舞步 (Aunt's crazy dance moves) is the best.

今夜立秋
Tonight, fall begins
Tonight, fall begins is one of the few rock bands from our region that sing about it: They sing about its historical complexity (e.g., 泥土之下 Below the earth), our complex emotional ties with it (e.g., 融化 Melting), as well as our sentiments in a post-industrial society (e.g., 我会依旧保持着沉默 I will remain silent). Their first album 严肃文学 Serious Literature was mixed by Wang Lifu, the frontman of the Samans; this really tells you that they are gooood.
