The "Illinois Portuguese Language Connection" is an initiative of Illinois' three largest universities: Northwestern University, The University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The main objective of this annual event is to bring together Portuguese students from universities in Illinois to interact in a dynamic and festive event.
This year, the Illinois Portuguese Language Connection will focus on the tradition of games in the Lusophone world. In connection with “The Year of Games” at the University of Chicago, students will have the opportunity to explore the most popular game in Brazil, soccer, as well as capoeira, a practice that can also be understood as a game and that meaningfully represents the country’s history and traditions.
In addition, participants will be able to experience board games and other popular games, such as “stop,” which is widely played in Brazil. Overall, the event will be a great opportunity to discover more about Lusophone culture, practice the Portuguese language, and spend time getting to know colleagues from other institutions who also study Portuguese.
