Wyatt Mould

Excavator at Borden Excavating

Wyatt Mould studied to become a journeyman lineman at Northwest Lineman College (NLC) in Meridian, Idaho. Founded in 1993, NLC is a private vocational technical school that offers training for careers in the power delivery industry.

After graduation, he joined the IBEW Mountain States Line Constructors Joint Apprenticeship and Training (MSLCAT) Program, which provides classroom instruction and field experience for individuals entering the electrical construction trade. Through this program, he gained practical knowledge in live-line work, electrical troubleshooting, and high-voltage maintenance while deepening his understanding of safety practices and electrical theory.

Wyatt spent three years working on power lines across Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Texas, traveling wherever crews were needed to restore power or expand the grid. Working in varied climates and terrains allowed him to build strong teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, which are essential in this field.

Training at Northwest Lineman College

At NLC, he completed a 15-week pre-apprentice program that combined classroom studies with hands-on lab work. The curriculum focused on power delivery, line construction, electrical systems, and safety practices. He learned the fundamentals of electrical theory, including voltage, current, and circuits, while also developing practical skills such as pole climbing, conductor handling, splicing, and proper tool use.

Safety training was an essential part of the program. He studied high-voltage precautions, fall protection, lock-out/tag-out procedures, insulated tool handling, and using personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.

Work as a Lineworker

As a lineman, he constructed, maintained, and repaired power transmission and distribution systems that delivered electricity to homes and businesses. His work covered overhead and underground systems, poles, transformers, switches, and transmission towers.

His tasks included stringing conductors, inspecting and testing lines, splicing and repairing wires, and replacing damaged poles or components. Many of these duties required working under challenging conditions, such as storms or high elevations, demanding both precision and attention to safety.

Lineworker Skills

Through his education and fieldwork, he developed strong diagnostic and technical abilities. He became skilled in operating specialized tools and equipment while performing detailed work at heights and around high-voltage systems. His experience also built his physical endurance, teamwork, and adaptability, which are vital for success in the power industry.

Work at Borden Excavating

Wyatt has worked for over three years as an excavator at Borden Excavating, a construction company in St. Calimesa, California. His work focuses on wet utilities, installing new water mains, and maintaining customer meter boxes.

While at Borden, he completed a two-year construction laborer apprenticeship through AGC in Riverside, California. AGC operates one of the state’s most extensive open-shop apprenticeship programs, dedicated to preparing skilled workers for the construction industry. Through this training, he gained hands-on experience in trenching, grading, pipe installation, and heavy equipment operation, expanding the skills he developed as a lineman.

Wyatt plans to return to the electrical trade and complete his apprenticeship with the NJTAC IBEW program.

Volunteer Work

He volunteers at Carol’s Kitchen in Riverside, California, which provides hot, nutritious meals to the homeless four days a week. He has contributed over 100 service hours, helping prepare and serve meals to those in need.

Personal Life

A Man of Faith

Faith plays a vital role in his life. Christian beliefs guide his values, influence his choices, and shape how he works and serves others.

Family is also central to his life; he enjoys spending time with them whenever possible.

Hobbies

In his free time, he enjoys outdoor and active pursuits such as golf, motorcycle riding, and camping. He also appreciates the skill and focus required for pool and skateboarding, and stays fit through regular workouts.

Wyatt Mould continues to build his career and personal life with dedication, integrity, and faith, drawing on his training, experience, and service to grow professionally and personally.
