Demonstrate critical thinking skills by applying principles of community health nursing in a variety of community settings aligning with the selected primary prevention topic.
Describe the completed field experience in a written assessment that will also outline recommendations to improve the community health concern using the nursing process.
Develop and recommend health promotion and disease prevention strategies for population groups.
Students are permitted to complete direct hours observing with licensed registered nurses knowledgeable in the selected prevention topic. Use the list below to help determine recommended registered nurses and facilities.
The course has total of 65 direct patient care hours.
The 60 hours direct hours will be completed in the student’s community and should relate to the student’s field experience topic.
Remember this is an interactive direct care experience – speak with patients, provide care, education, etc. - it is not simply observing or shadowing
Students are not permitted to document site visits or assessments, interviews, paid working time, work-related training, webinars, online courses, online training, in-person training or classes, continuing education units (CEUs), research hours, time spent writing the paper, time spent scheduling activities, unsupervised observations of people or patients, participation in or observation of sporting events, or in-person or online meetings. Students are not permitted to shadow or observe a professional or nonprofessional who is not a registered nurse.
