The Preceptor is employed by a WGU affiliated clinical site and meets the following criteria:
Has an active, unencumbered WY RN license
Must be an RN or higher (BSN,MSN, NP, DNP)
Serves as a liaison/guide between the student, and host site/collaborative agencies.
Cannot be a member of the student’s immediate family or have a financial, business, or professional relationship in conflict with the preceptor's duties
Has agreed to support a student’s learning including providing feedback on student participation in a supportive and constructive way.
Collaborates with the student and Course Instructor to recommend additional learning experiences consistent with the learning goals and course competencies.
Approves the student’s time log to verify the accrued hours.
Preceptors will share their knowledge, skills, and experience with the student related to community health promotion, advocacy, outreach, and collaborative activities, or has connections with other nurses, case managers, social workers, or community leaders who deal with the students’ primary prevention topic.
Preceptors will expose students to the practice of nursing care interventions focused on the community and population as the patient. In this field experience, students will observe a licensed registered nurse employed at community facilities to learn about the health concern chosen by the student and the resources and services for care from their perspectives.
