It's the team's first retro so you keep it simple and that is a great way to go. You may feel the urge to make every session complex and engaging but the real value of the retrospective is the quality of the conversation, the ideas generated that will make the improvements the team want. Luckily there are a bunch of suggestions, tips, and entire sites based on retrospective ideas and formats. Do make sure that you take advantage of them. One tip we will share with you and this goes for all of the events, not just the retrospective; make sure you have a session plan drawn up and understood so you know what you are trying to achieve in the session and how you intend to facilitate the session to get there. Facilitation is hard, even more so when you are in a new role so it is good to have a structure to help you keep focused and aligned.
