Grant Funding/Charity Funding Guidelines
To be considered as a recipient of the Making A Way Foundation (MAWF) Grant/Charity Funding, the organization, church, individual or family must complete the on-line application which can be retrieved from the website at www.mawf-va.org. A paper copy of the application may also be printed and mailed to MAWF at 6210 Gilchrist Ave., Henrico, VA 23231. The guidelines are as follows but not limited to the below:
Who can Apply?
Any individual or family who may be experiencing a crisis situation (family disruption or disturbance, natural disasters (i.e. flooding, fires, or weather related disaster), economic changes (i.e. loss of job, medical bills, utilities being cut off), community resources (i.e. food resources, lack of housing resources, minor home repairs), life events (loss of loved one, birth of a child, disturbance to daily activities).
Review Process
1. After receipt of the application, it will be reviewed by the MAWF Board to determine if the application meets the criteria of a crisis.
2. The Board may contact the applicant if additional information is needed to complete the review process. The Board will vote and confirm by majority vote of the decision to approve or deny the applicant with a decision being made within seven (7) days.
3. A letter of approval or denial will be sent electronically to the charitable organization, church, individual or family regarding the decision. Note: A copy of the draft approval letter can be found on the foundation’s website.
Funding Amount
1. Funding may range from $50 to $1500.00 depending on the applicant’s crisis at the time of application submittal. Additional funding may be approved when deemed necessary.
2. Funding may be provided to individual and families who resides in the United States, but the primary focus will be in the State of Virginia with targeted areas of Richmond and surrounding counties.
3. Funding may be provided to assist individual and families who are in a crisis and the need is to purchase food, hotel accommodations, gas purchase, utility and electricity payments, minor home repairs, resource information and loss of income. When necessary, the MAWF may disperse funds directly to the company, local church, or organization to ensure the crisis receives immediate attention, and that the funds are spent appropriately to address the intended purpose.
4. Funding will be provided on an as needed basis and if funding is available at the time application is received and approved. The amount of funding made available will be reviewed annually by the MAWF Board.
Loans
1. The MAWF may provide short term loans to individual or families who qualify based on the need, circumstance, or situation. Loan funding may be used to make minor home repairs, pay a delinquent mortgage debt, or any other justifiable debt due to financial hardship and if the hardship placed them in a crisis. Most loans will be provided interest free, however, MAWF reserves the right to charge individuals applying for a loan an interest fee of no more 1% at its discretion and when it is deemed necessary.
The below criteria must be met to apply for Loan Funding:
-The individual must be 18 years old or older and,
-Have a valid Driver’s License or State issued ID and,
-Have a low credit score or no credit (credit report must be provided with application)
-Be able to enter into an agreement and sign MAWF Loan Agreement once approval is granted
Questionnaire/Use of Funds
1. A questionnaire will be sent to whomever received funding or services from the MAWF to verify that the funds were used to address the crisis for the approved individual or family. If the MAWF Board finds that funds were misused or inappropriately spent other than for the original intent, the individual or family may be held responsible for repayment of the funds.
The completed survey will be attached to the application and approval letter. A copy of all documents will be kept in the files for audit purposes.
