The guided tour includes: turn-of-the-century sitting rooms, the kitchens and a grand "open" staircase, wide moats. Afternoon : Mâcon is a city in the Burgundy region of east-central France. Exhibits at the Musée des Ursulines, a former 17th-century convent, focus on art, archeological excavations and local urban history. La Maison de Bois, a centuries-old house, features a wooden facade with unusual statues of monkeys and masked characters. Dating from the 19th-century, the Église Saint-Pierre is a Romanesque church with twin steeples. 

The Rock of Solutré stands at an altitude of 495 metres, and is right at the heart of an area that is classified as a "Grand Site de France", made up of Solutré, Pouilly and Vergisson. Walk up to the top, just like former French President François Mitterrand. At the top of this escarpment, there is a spectacular panoramic view of the Mâconnais vineyards. While you're there, make sure you stop off at the Musée de la Préhistoire at the foot of the rock, to learn all about the archaeological value of the area.
