Coach Grigg's vision for each athlete in the small group training programs is to optimize performance through expert coaching that is rooted in science and built on a meaningful relationship.
Small Group, High Impact: SPEED’s small group format ensures every athlete gets the personalized attention, detailed instruction, and individualized programming they need to succeed. We believe quality decreases with quantity—so we intentionally keep coach-to-athlete ratios low to maximize training quality
Training happens in two key formats
Summer Small Group Training & AAU Competition
Fall, Winter, and Spring Small Group Training designed to complement school-based sports teams
The SPEED Approach
Expert Coaching: as a former D1 sprinter and hurdler at Samford University, Coach Grigg has an extensive understanding of track and field. His passion for the sport—combined with academic insights from a Bachelors degree in Health Sciences and minor in Strength and Conditioning—drives measurable performance gains
Inspired by Experience: Coach Grigg’s years competing at the D1 level taught him what it takes to reach peak potential. His training philosophy integrates the same methods that fueled his own success—elite-level training, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and sport psychology
Refined by Mentorship: Coach Grigg has been guided by top-tier coaches throughout his career. Their influence has helped shape and elevate his approach to athletic development
Grounded in Research: Coach Grigg’s program is grounded in current research and best practices, ensuring athletes train smarter, not just harder
Tailored Training Plans: every athlete is unique—and so is their path to peak performance. Coach Grigg uses a three-pronged approach to design personalized training plans
Assessment & Measurement: Coach Grigg begins by identifying each athlete’s movement strengths and deficiencies to build a comprehensive, individualized training plan. Since SPEED is king across all sports, acceleration and sprint ability are measured from day one. Throughout training, Coach Grigg consistently records sprint times and key performance metrics—ensuring progress is always tracked and adjustments are made with precision
Progress Tracking: performance is measured consistently to ensure athletes are on track toward their goals. Whether it’s sprint times, hurdle technique, jump distances, or mobility benchmarks, Coach Grigg collects data throughout training. Athletes periodically revisit key assessments to track improvements in acceleration and speed, while other metrics are used to monitor progress across all event areas
The Holistic Athlete: peak performance requires more than just drills and reps. Coach Grigg educates athletes on critical lifestyle factors—hydration, nutrition, and sleep—that support optimal output. Training also emphasizes mobility and strength in key muscle groups to boost performance and prevent injury, setting athletes up for long-term success
Relational: at SPEED, training goes beyond physical performance—it's about building a foundation of trust, respect, and belonging. We believe that strong, positive relationships between athletes and coaches are key to unlocking potential and achieving success. Just as important are the bonds formed between peer athletes, fostering a supportive, fun, and motivating environment
Personhood > Performance: training is about more than getting faster—it’s about growing as a person. We believe that true development happens when athletes know their worth is not tied to their performance, but rooted in who they are
Positive Environments = Winning Environments: SPEED is built on a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment where athletes enjoy learning and growing. We focus on building confidence, celebrating progress, and creating a culture that brings out the best in everyone
