Odyssey Moth is an evolving fantasy and sci-fi narrative intertwined with an independent electronic post-punk music project established in 1998. The story follows the dark romantic adventures of Randolph Landoncult and mirrors the life cycle of a moth while navigating a magical numeric path. This multifaceted project includes electronic music compositions, original literature, and visual art created by conceptual artist Robert Andrew Bowman, with each element carefully crafted to align with the overarching multimedia concept.
To date, Odyssey Moth (OM) has produced three albums, which are currently off most streaming platforms as the project seeks rebranding support from a production company and investors.
The first album, Fragments, features co-production by Eric Curry from Top Llama Productions and the electronic music project Bahbiss Cobb. Eric and Rob first connected in the early 1990s as members of the Energy Records music group, Heavy Water Factory. The album also includes live drumming by Jörn Schwarzburger, whom Rob met on tour in 2018 while performing with Randolph’s Grin. Jörn is recognized for his collaborations with artists such as Sher and Lord of the Lost and currently plays with Antitype.
The second album, Temples of the Snake and Thorn, was created by Bowman with co-production assistance from Eric Curry in 2001. Performed by Bowman in Los Angeles under the name Mercury Sparrow in 2003, it was renamed and officially released in 2021 as part two of the Odyssey Moth series.
The third album, Tears for the Taking Pool, represents the original incarnation of Odyssey Moth, created by Bowman in 1998. It features guitar work by Chris Flagg from the early '90s Detroit industrial band, Blue Nation, and was the first album to include live performances from drummer/keyboardist John Jessman and drummer Dan Ryniak. Although mixed and mastered at Rust Belt Studios in 1999, this album was released in 2021 after Bowman dedicated himself fully to the Odyssey Moth conceptual project.
Currently, Odyssey Moth is working on its fourth album, Lucid Dreams, originally created in 2005, releasing it one single at a time. This album features Bowman's original writings and compositions, co-produced in collaboration with Per-Anders Kurenbach, known for his work with Nine Circles, Shock Therapy, and Psyche. Bowman and Kurenbach first collaborated on a remix of Bowman's album Dragon Road in 2016 and have continued their partnership in the multi-collaborative project Plastic Assault Network (P.A.N.). The completion and release of Odyssey Moth’s fourth album are scheduled for 2025.
