Litter Pickers Clean Up!
In 2025 we collected roughly 150 cu yards of trash - that’s roughly 15,000 lbs. of trash!! So on our 4 miles off roadways we collected more trash than would fit inside a typical semi-trailer.
We have teamed up with Talmadge, Alvarado and College View estates and regularly have over 40 litter picking volunteers each month!
Our coverage area has grown in 2025 to cover over 4 miles of local roadways, including parts of Fairmont, Aldine, Montezuma and Adams.
We cleared and or reported to the city, or Caltrans 40 homeless encampments that we identified while picking litter. In many of these camps we collected everything from drug paraphernalia to propane tanks, gas cans, fire pits, and all kinds of high fire hazard items from our nearby and canyons surrounding Kensington.
Besides our local volunteers, we had D9 city council representatives join us in 2025 (including Sean Elo Rivera) as did Todd Gloria and members of his staff. Local Community Resource officer Josh Cummings is also an active and regular litter picking participant.
We successfully got a long stretch of damaged chain-link fence repaired by the city and were also successful in getting a substantial amount of brush management done along the roadways we pick litter from.
We meet after picking at a local establishment for coffee and some community interaction with our community resource officer - Josh Cummings
The litter pickers meet on the first Sunday of each month (holidays and weather permitting) and pick for 1 hour before attending the coffee /social hour. Please contact our awesome Litter Picker Director, Mike Baldwin, to get on our Litter Picker Email Blast for info about volunteering or donating.
