WWU URGE Pod Norms
Respect others’ lived experiences and perspectives.
There is no hierarchy, egalitarianism. All members of the pod, no matter their career stage/department role, are on equal footing.
Practice active listening.
Give space to all voices; provide others with the chance to talk.
Raise your hand if you would like to speak and wait to be called on by a moderator.
Assume everyone is coming in with positive intentions. We are going to have difficult discussions, if a point is brought up that is confusing or upsetting, ask for clarification.
Call in, not out.
Acknowledge the background of everyone participating in the conversation.
Expect flexibility! Acknowledge we all come from different places and have different amounts of time and energy to contribute at different times.
Recognize that we’re all going to do our best, and respect that what we can give to this effort will vary between people and vary through time.
Have respect and consideration for difficult but important conversations.
This is a space for us to all learn together.
Recognize that making mistakes is part of the learning process.
Approach different opinions with curiosity.
Every meeting should have a note taker, a moderator, and a facilitator.
The moderator should help lead the direction of discussions.
Anyone who desires to be, can have any role.
Provide your pronouns (if you feel comfortable).
No questions are stupid.
Keep open lines of communication between working groups.
Transparency in communication.
Prepare and revisit.
