Raymond Snapp was quite successful in getting good and not-so-good players to play as a team. During his 36 years of coaching baseball (two at the "old" Mathias High and 34 at East Hardy High School). Ray's teams compiled for him a 562-359 record. Watt Powell Park and Appalachian Power Park have hosted his teams seven times seeing the highlight of his baseball coaching career: The 1987 WV Class A State Baseball Championship as well as WV Class A Runner-up titles in 2006 and 2012. He proudly claims those 30+ players given All-State honors under his tutelage. Sharing experiences and making decisions for our WVSSAC, it was gratifying for Ray to serve on the state baseball committee for 15 years and to coach during several North-South All-Star Classics. The Potomac Valley Conference has named him as their coach of the year for several years. Following retirement from his beloved coaching career in 2013, he was named the WV 2012 State Coach of the Year by the National Federation Of State High School Association.
