The West Virginia High School Baseball Coaches Association (WVBCA) was officially formed by George Brumfield, Al Estep, Toby Holbrook, and John Lowery Sr. in 1992, to provide services and recognition for baseball coaches and to help promote and represent high school baseball across West Virginia. The current membership has coaches from every area in the state.
1992: The WVHSBCA organization meeting was held in conjunction with Marshall University Baseball Clinic Clinic in Barboursville WV. Marshall's Head Baseball Coach Howard McCann (Brain McCann dad Braves) suggested that WV baseball coaches should have a coach association. The coaches that spear headed this movement were: George Brumfield (Wayne), Al Estep (DuPont), Toby Holbrook (Huntington), and John Lowery Sr.(Jefferson). John Lowery was elected President and George Brumfield Sec/Treasure.
1993: WVHSBCA held its first clinic which was held at the Charleston Civic Center on February 4, 5th 1993. The speakers were Pat Murphy of Notre Dame and his coaching staff. There were
approximately 100 in attendance.
1994: The clinic was held again at the Charleston Civic Center on February 5, 6th 1994. The main speaker was Tony Guzzo Head Coach at Va. Commonwealth University. Also speaking were, the late Dale
Ramsburg Head Coach WVU, Greg VanZant Asst. WVU, Shawn Torbett Pitching Coach WV Wesl and Brett Concredi Asst. WV Wesleyan.
1995: The Clinic was held at the Charleston Civic Center on February 7,8th 1995. The main speaker was Rod Delmonico Head Coach University of Tenn. Also speaking were, Hal Dyer Minor League Pitching Coach of the Toronto Blue Jays.
1997: The Fourth Annual WVHSBCA Clinic was held at the Charleston Civic Center on January 31, February 1st 1997. The main speakers was Sam Riggleman Head Coach at Bethel College. Also speaking were, Greg VanZant Head Coach WVU, Hal Dyer Medicine Hat Blue Jays, Head Coach Lawrence Nesselrodt, Head Coach Davis and Elkins College, Allen Johnson Strength and Conditioning Coach WVU, and Dave Cisar Head Coach Magnolia High School.
