George Brumfield has been a Charter Member of the NHBCA and has served the organization in many ways. He was the Mid-Atlantic Chair of the Ranking Committee from 1993-1998 and was appointed to this position in 2012, and chaired the National Ranking Committee from 1999-2004. George presented a clinic session in 1998 in Tulsa, OK. In addition to coaching baseball, George has coached football and been the athletic director at Wayne High School; during summers he has managed the West Virginia Coal Sox team in the Frontier League, was a member of the First Cape Cod National High School All Star Game in 2005, and has scouted for the Chicago White Sox.
George served as Head Coach at Wayne High School (516-304-5) for 27 years and two years as an assistant coach. His teams won four AA State Championships, three AA, Runner- Up and one AAA trophies. George’s team also made one AA final four appearance. He was a professional manager with the West Virginia Coal Sox (1993) of the Frontier League. He was a football at Wayne for 14 years, four years as a Head Coach. The last ten years George also served as Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach. When George retired from teaching in 2006 he went to Marshall University where he served as an assistant coach for four years. After he left Marshall, George’s son Tracy (Head Coach) ask him to be his assistant coach. The last three year George has been an assistant at Cabell Midland High School.
George was instrumental in organizing the West Virginia Baseball Coaches Association serving as Secretary/Treasurer for numerous years. He was one of the inaugural inductees elected into the West Virginia Baseball Coaches Hall OF Fame. He is still active with the WVBCA working on the Hall of Fame Committee. He served on two committees within the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. He served as District 2 Representative and Chairperson for the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coach Association TOP 25 High School Baseball Poll for 15 years. He is now serving as the District 2 Representative on the All Regional/All American Committee.
George has won numerous coaching awards: National Federation State High School Association District II Mideast Sectional Coach of the Year 2003, American Baseball Coaches Association District III Region Coach of the Year 2004, National High School Baseball Coaches Association District 2 Coach of the Year 1992-1994, American Baseball Coaches Association Distinguished Service Award 1991. He was a member of the TEAM ONE National Coaching Staff and served as a coach at the First Cape Cod National High School All Star in 2005.
George is a graduate of Glenville State College where he played one year of football before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he spent four years and 10 months during the Viet Nam era. He then returned to Glenville where he played one year of baseball before graduating. George and his wife Joyce are the parents of two sons, Tracy (Nikki) and Chris. They have two granddaughter Taylor and Lindsey Brumfield and two grandsons Cole and Blake Tilley.

A native of Charles Town, WV, John E. Lowery grew up loving baseball. As a three-sport (football, basketball, and baseball) participant, John graduated from Charles Town High School in 1963, where he was named as co- winner of the school’s outstanding senior athlete award. He then attended Potomac State College, the United States Naval Academy (only 1 year) and Fairmont State College where he received his undergraduate degree in 1969. John finished his education at West Virginia University by earning a Master’s Degree in 1971.
While in college, John participated in baseball at all the schools he attended. He was a member of WV Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship teams at Fairmont State in 1967 and 1968.
John returned to his native Jefferson County to begin a teaching and coaching career in 1969. He coached three sports (football, basketball, and baseball) for 17 seasons. His tenure as a Head Varsity Baseball Coach will enter its 39th season in the spring of 2009. After two years at now defunct Harpers Ferry High School, John moved to Jefferson High School where he continues today. In 36 seasons at JHS, John’s teams have won 9 State Championships, 21 Regional Championships, and 24 Sectional Titles. In addition, his Cougars were State Runner-ups four times. Jefferson’s appearances in 13 State Championship games is a state record along with their 9 State Titles. The Cougars also have won 20 or more games in 32 consecutive seasons, including 30 or more on 17 occasions. In March 2009, John won his 1000th career game becoming only the 10th high school coach (according to the NFHS) to reach that mark.

John has been married for 41 years to the former Vicki Blue. They have 3 sons - John, Jr (39), Charles (38), and Rusty (35) each of whom played on State Championship teams for their father. The Lowery family has also been blessed with five grandchildren - Abbee (11), Beau (9), Brooks (7), TJ (5) and Teagan (3)
