WUICAT (Wildland Urban Interface Community Action Team) is a volunteer organization comprised of community members living throughout the Municipality of Anchorage. While collaborating closely with government entities and other stakeholder organizations, WUICAT operates independently, without affiliation to any specific government body or community council.
Purpose:
Advocate for funding of wildland fire mitigation projects.
Promote wildland fire education.
Promote data-based, mapping and risk-assessments to prioritize wildfire mitigation projects.
Advise governmental entities on risk-based priorities for limited wildland fire resources.
Participate in the development and updating of Anchorage's Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).
History:
In 2019 the Rabbit Creek Community Council established a "Resilience Committee" to better address multiple hazards that faced the Anchorage Hillside. It was recognized that wildland fire posed an outsized hazard that affected the entire MOA, and in 2024, WUICAT was formed with a wildland fire focus for the entire MOA.
