In 1993, the hip-hop group released an independent single known as "Protect ya neck" that helped elevate the group to a sizeable underground following.
Although there were difficulties in finding a record label that would sign the Wu Tang Clan while each member was allowed to record solo albums with other labels.
After signing to Steve Rifkind's label known as "Loud Records", the American group released their debut album Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993. The album received positive reviews on audience and accumulated fame & recognition that later on was considered to be the greatest hip hop album of all time.
