D2L Grade Book (Room AW 114): Learn how to set up your D2L Grade Book. This session will provide a hands-on approach for walking instructors through setting up their grade book for the year.
Discover Your Strengths(AW 132): This session is limited to 6 participants. Those who sign-up will take the Strength Finders test. Heidi will explain what those mean and how you can use them in your day-to-day life.
How do you convert a hands-on class into an online class? (Gabelman Room): Are you thinking that it would be impossible to deliver your course online? Wondering how students would demonstrate the competencies that are required for your courses? Ever stop to consider what makes an online course effective? In this session, we will explore how to convert a hands-on course an online course. We will take a look at the standards for designing and delivering online instruction, and brainstorm solutions for making a successful conversion. This session is open to all who are interested in seeing our standards for designing online courses.
Hand CPR/Stop the Bleeding: (AE 118): Hands-Only CPR is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an “out-of-hospital” setting (such as at home, at work, or in a park). Stop the Bleed is a national level program created by the American College of Surgeons in response to the Sandy Hook school shooting. In mass shooting situations, motor vehicle accidents, or occupational or at-home accidents, major blood loss is a life-threatening problem. According to the Stop the Bleeding Coalition, 35 percent of pre-hospital deaths are a result of bleeding. But, with just a little training on how to help stop uncontrolled bleeding, bystanders can help save a life. Each session is limited to 12 individuals.
During the 60 minutes, six will work on Hands-on CPR for 30 minutes, and the other six will have a 30 minutes presentation on helping stop injuries from bleeding. Then the two groups will switch after 30 minutes.
The Ins-And Outs of Washburn Tech Travel (AW 131 - Lynn Dawsons Room): This section will take you from the basics of the travel authorization to cashing the refund check once your travel expense report has been submitted. Want your reimbursement fast? This session will tear down the myth that the travel process here is too complicated.
Online Instructor Orientation and Training (Gabelman Room): Teaching an online course presents unique challenges. How often should you interact with learners? What are the guidelines for providing feedback, promoting learner participation, and dealing with D2L issues? In this session we will review the standards for online instruction. This session is open to all who are interested in seeing how online instruction differs from classroom instruction. (This session is required for those who are planning to teach online this semester)
PSLO's (AE146) - Dr. Tatro will be available to work with instructors on their PSLO's during the breakout session.
Rubric Star (AW 101): Up your instructional game and increase student awareness in your program. In this breakout, you will learn the why, what and how behind quality student assessments. You will leave with tools and practical knowledge you can put to work as soon as your back in your program. Josh Thompson will be the presenter.
SchoolDude (Room AW 101): This session will show instructors on how they can schedule meetings and other events using SchoolDude. If you schedule events, this session is highly recommended.
SMART LAB (Room AW 120B): Use SMART lab to enhance your lessons by creating and adding interactive activities. These activities help students memorize concepts and facts, identify objects, learn vocabulary definitions, and more.
“The World of Purchasing" Purchasing Card vs./ Payment Voucher vs. Purchase Request (AW 131): This session will highlight what the appropriate thresholds are for using a purchasing card, a payment voucher, and a purchase request. There will be a specific part of this section regarding how to request and appropriately spend grant funds.
Web Page Syllabus (Your classroom): use this time to go over your program folder located on the shared drive for the purpose of verifying that all syllabus is updated and correct. The finished product will go onto the website.
