Q: What is WTNB's role in the IMSL / IMSBB event at Touche on May 24th?
A: WTNB is posting the event on social media (not producing) the event. This is an important event for women, trans, and non-binary people. Judy Tallwing McCarthey is the first International Ms. Leather. The IMSL / IMSBB presence is a rare opportunity for women, trans, and nonbinary people in Chicago to interact with three different IMSL and IMSBB Titleholders and learn about Leather history.
Q: Given the fact that Touche included a racist and misogynistic puppet show during their event on November 2, 2022, and did not stop it or respond as they should have, why did WTNB hold an event called Resistance at Touche in March 2025?
A: Touche has engaged in an accountability process that included apologizing at a community meeting, via email, and in the news. Touche met with leaders from both Onyx and WTNB to discuss ways for Touche to repair the harm that was done. Based on the outcomes of those meetings, the entire Touche staff was professionally trained in regard to racism, transgender people, and misogyny. Management completed additional training sessions specifically for them. Touche updated their advertising to reflect people of color. Touche made a donation to The Brave Space Alliance, the first Black-led, Trans-led, LGBTQ+ center located on the south side of Chicago. And, Touche has allowed WTNB to preview and provide feedback about event entertainment for Mr. Chicago Leather.
Q: Has everyone agreed to end the boycott of Touche?
A: No. There are groups and individuals who are still boycotting Touche. WTNB supports their right to boycott. Some were harmed so deeply that they will never return. WTNB supports their decision. Everyone should decide for themself if they will go to Touche.
Q: Is WTNB be attending the IMSL / IMSLBB event?
A: WTNB is an event, not an organization. As such, there are no expectations placed on anyone to go. People are free to choose if they would like to attend the event or not.
Q: Is it okay if not all WTNB people want to go to Touche?
A: Absolutely. Any WTNB person who feels uncomfortable or who disagrees with WTNB’s decision to advertise an event being held at Touche will still be 100% welcome at other WTNB events. There is no pressure to attend.
Q: Will WTNB Barnight still be happening at Baton?
A: Yes, there are no plans for WTNB to leave Baton.
Q: How did WTNB make the decision to hold the Resistance event at Touche in March 2025?
A: WTNB is an event, not an organization. The volunteers were consulted and there was enough interest to move forward. There is no official membership and all WTNB events are optional. The choice is up to the individual.
Q: What was the topic of the March 2025 event at Touche?
A: Resistance. Social Workers from Praxis lead a discussion on how to engage in self-care while still resisting oppression.
