Electric Vehicles \ Battery Management System \ Model-based State Estimation
When I worked for Hyundai Motor Company over 10 years, I helped develop all different types of EVs and their controllers. Particularly for the past 5 years, I had been involved in designing the battery state estimation algorithms. I feel proud that some of them are now running with the latest EV models such as Hyundai Ioniq and Kia Niro.
Autonomous Vehicles \ from scratch
After I joined Chosun University in 2017, I have started a self-driving car research with my students. We have little to show for now but I dream of our self-driving car roaming freely on the campus. I wish that it could contribute to our university, for instance, by making a regular patrol at night and/or by taking students to the main building located on a hill.
As of now, 5 students are teamed up to study all about autonomous vehicles and their technologies. I am glad to have them under my instruction. Their team is called 朝鮮未來車工作所 which means 'future car builders in Chosun University'.
We are now building a Duckietown that is an open, inexpensive and flexible platform for autonomy education and research. It was first introduced by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (http://duckietown.mit.edu/). By also making the Duckietown here in Gwangju, I hope that we could be one of its international branches (as far as I know, there are two in the present: one in Taiwan and the other in Swiss).
