What is the Crime Reduction Unit?
The Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) is a proactive, intelligence-driven division within the King County Sheriff's Office, focused on reducing crime and improving public safety across the county. Comprised of experienced and highly trained deputies, the CRU specializes in targeting high-crime areas, chronic offenders, and organized criminal activity that threatens the well-being of our communities.
The CRU’s primary mission is to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal networks, while addressing the root causes of crime through a combination of enforcement, prevention, and community engagement. From violent crime to property offenses, drug trafficking, and gang activity, the unit works relentlessly to restore safety and trust in neighbourhoods most affected by crime.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Conducting targeted investigations into violent crime, drug offenses, gang activity, and repeat offenders
Gathering and analyzing intelligence to identify crime trends, hotspots, and prolific offenders
Coordinating surveillance operations, search warrants, and arrest missions in partnership with other specialized units
Collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies on multi-jurisdictional crime initiatives
Engaging with community members and stakeholders to build trust and address public safety concerns
Supporting patrol deputies with specialized resources, tactical support, and investigative expertise
Deploying high-visibility operations in areas experiencing spikes in criminal activity
Utilizing crime mapping, data analysis, and technology to guide enforcement and prevention strategies
Facilitating crime prevention programs and education to empower residents and reduce victimization
The Crime Reduction Unit serves as a force multiplier for the Sheriff’s Office—bridging enforcement and prevention. Through precision policing and strong community partnerships, the CRU plays a vital role in making King County a safer place to live, work, and thrive.
