Harvard, IL sirens were disconnected in 2019 following a string of malfunctions that were originally blamed on malicious intent. The sirens were operated on a telephone relay system that ran off a central command point at the OA-4, which itself was radio activated. It's believed the telephone system was glitching and falsely activating the sirens numerous times before the city pulled the plug on the system.
Before the sirens were shut down, they were tested every Tuesday at 10:30AM for 3 minutes of Alert. The Thunderbolt had already been decommissioned many decades prior.
