Prepare for the Notary Checklist!
What type of notarization is needed? (See "How Do I Know Which Notarial Act I Need?" below )
Do you have acceptable ID? (It must be the original ID, not an image, scan or photocopy)
State issued driver’s license
State issued identification card
U.S. passport
U.S. military ID
State, county, and local government IDs
Permanent resident card or “green card” issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
Foreign passport
Foreign driver’s license
Credible witness with form of ID listed above
Do you have the full document? (Not just the signature page)
Are all sections of the document completed? (No blank spaces)
Do you need the notary to print any documents before hand? (Please send to notary at NotaryWest@tmpiece.com)
Will you need photocopies made? (Will need access to photocopier. A library is a great meeting spot to do business and get photocopies!)
Do you have the appropriate form of payment ready at the time of the notarization? (Cash, Venmo, or Credit Card [2.99% credit card fee])

How Do I Know Which Notarial Act I Need?
Oath/Affirmation, Acknowledgment, Witnessing Signature, or Copy Certification?
Often it is obvious by looking at the notarial certificate in the section where the notary signs. For example, if the notarial certificate reads, "Signed and sworn (or affirmed) before me...," it would be an Oath/Affirmation. If it reads, "I certify that this is a true and correct copy of a record...," it would be a Certified Copy. If it reads, "This record was acknowledged before me...." it would be an Acknowledgement. If it reads, "Signed before me...," it would be a Witness Signature.
However, a lawyer can definitively tell you which notarial act your document requires. Also, the provider of the document (the person or entity who created or provided the document) or the recipient of the document (the person or entity who will receive the document after it is signed and notarized ) should know which notarial act is required.
