The current version High School Math Contest is a 1998 modification of the original contest created in the 1980's as an initiative to connect students in Washington that share an interest in mathematics and to foster a love of mathematics while connecting with other students across the state.
Even during the pandemic years, we found ways to adapt the HS Contest to an online platform, and have expanded access to the event by maintaining a Virtual Region to promote access across the State.
In 2022 we were able to return to in-person State Event at Central Washington University, which was a wonderful celebration of students from across the State doing math together! CWU once again offered $1,000 tuition waivers to CWU for each of the 1st place team members. A unique aspect of the State Event is Ad-Hoc Teams, where young mathematicians who did not qualify in an event, can team up with team members from other schools and work together on math.
