Welcome to WRSS

After-School Chess Program

BENEFITS of CHESS

Our Program

Multiple benefits of chess are known to help children’s academic performance as well as their personal development.

Our KQ chess club's mission is to promote and popularize CHESS-intelligent sport to the younger generations.

Our academy aims to introduce CHESS to the schools to enrich students’ co-curricular learning.

Our goal at school is to grow along with your child's learning and personal development!

At WRSS, while developing the children's chess potential, we also target to encourage passionate and talented players who, within a year or two, will form strong school chess teams.

We believe

GENIUS is NOT born, it can be MADE!

Instead of saying I'm not good at that,

try getting into the habit of telling yourself,

I may not be good at it now,

but if I learn a lot and work hard,

I CAN BE GOOD in the future!

Our Achievements

At WRSS, we started our after-school chess program in Term Two 2022. These classes have been a huge success, our students started delivering outstanding results within only two terms.

🎉Congratulations to our chess students, our team coach and to our school as well!

❤️We would also like to express our appreciation to the parents of our students for your ongoing support and commitment to the goals of chess education.

Interschool @ Stretton State College

♟️𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 | 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐒

On Monday 28 August, 35 Chess students represented Warrigal Road State School in the Term 3 Inter-school Chess Tournament which was held at Stretton College. We are very proud of the manner in which our students represented the school and of their behaviors throughout the day.

Congratulations to the WRSS Team 5 consisting of: Mahil M, Markus B, Vidun W and Jayden L for placing 2nd and winning Silver medals.

Congratulations also to each of the 12 WRSS Merit Award winners who achieved a score of 4.5 or above. Award recipients were Kaiwen S, Mason S, Isaac R, Yuto M, Mahil M, Vidun W, Ryder Y, Lexter L, Collin J, Toby V, Jack L and Eston T.

In the Premier Division, our WRSS Team 1 placed 4th, missing out (by less than half a point) on qualifying for the Qld State Finals. In spite of this disappointment, this was a significant result for our fledgling Premiers as, according to their ratings, they ranked 6 out of the 8 teams. We are proud of the substantial progress made by our WRSS team members who faced the challenge of participating at Premier level for the first time. Individually, Kaiwen S placed 4th scoring 5 out of 7 and obtaining the highest rating change (an increase of 22 points).

This term we were so close to achieve a place in the top 3 in each division because we got so many 4th places in both the team and individual rankings.

We are seeing our students demonstrate their potential and a promising future. All of the students have learnt and have grown from representing WRSS and participating in the inter-school tournaments.

Once again, all our children were well organized and looked after by a supportive team. A big thank you to the school, our volunteers, parents and coaching team.

We believe that our WRSS chess teams will place in the top 3 in more Divisions as they continue to gain skills, experience and confidence. We also believe that before long our hardworking and dedicated Premier team, with the support of our school community, will have the opportunity to represent WRSS in the Queensland State Finals.

Welcome more students to join this mind sport and enrolment for term 4 could be done via the link 🔗WRSS Chess Program
