FAQ

Who are you guys? Can you tell me a bit more about yourselves?

Hii!!! I am Megumi, and I'm 16 years old and am currently in the 10th grade! I live in the Bronx, New York, and I am a mentee at Girls Write Now!! I absolutely love writing (specifically, poetry) so much!! But I also love music and reading and photography a lot, too! As well as, helping and inspiring others! I am an INFJ-T and a capricorn!! Also, I am currently obsessed with Olivia Rodrigo <3

Hi, I'm Maddie! I'm from Indiana but currently reside in NYC! I work in the publishing industry, which makes sense because I've been a bookworm for as long as I can remember....but now there's never any time to read! In my free time, I love a good walk/run/hike, Gilmore Girls ep, or bopping around to Harry Styles!

How did you guys meet?

We met through the wonderful writing program for girls called: Girls Write Now and then were picked to be partners! You should join if you are interested in writing and being a mentee (ages 14–24) or mentor (age 25+)!! :)

What are some of your favorite authors besides the ones mentioned?

Some of Megumi's favorite authors are John Green, Veronica Roth, Rick Riordan, and Caroline Kennedy! Maddie favors books over authors these days, some of which include The Great Believers (Rebecca Makkai), The Heart's Invisible Furies (John Boyne), A Little Life (Hanya Yanagihara), and Writers & Lovers (Lily King).

What are your favorite feminist leaders?

Some of Megumi's favorite feminist leaders are Caroline Kennedy, Amanda Gorman, Natalie Portman, JLaw, RBG, Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae, Gracie Abrams, and Coretta Scott King! (Okay, that was not "some" lol sorry.) Maddie really admires Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Alok Vaid-Menon, Margaret Atwood, and Roxanne Gay, among many others!

What is your #1 advice for writing?

Our #1 advice for writing is to find something that gets your creative juices flowing like listening to music! Btw: That's one of the ways, we've been expanding our writing skills and our key when free writing!! ;)

Maddie would also add that she's found that reading fuels writing. The more you read, the more your mind will expand, as well as your ideas about what's possible in writing. Read a lot, from a variety of voices and perspectives, and you'll see your own craft begin to improve.
