WPCTE School Literacy Achievement Award
WPCTE President Amy Bouch created the WPCTE School Literacy Achievement Award to recognize schools and their teachers who go above and beyond to participate in the WPCTE events focused on students' reading and writing.
To earn the WPCTE School Literacy Achievement Award, schools must participate in both the English Festival and the Flash Fiction Contest during one calendar year. For the first year, that meant the 2022 English Festival and the 2022 Flash Fiction Contest. For the second year, that means the 2023 English Festival and the 2023 Flash Fiction Contest. Since the events are in the spring and fall, this award considers two separate school years to focus on the continuity of providing students with additional literacy opportunities outside of the regular school curriculum. Since the English Festival is only for students in grades 4-12, teachers of students in grades 1-3 can submit an explanation of an additional reading-focused event that occurs in the school. This will satisfy the requirements to win the award for schools/teachers/students who participate in the Flash Fiction Contest but cannot participate in the English Festival.
