Worth Scan (“the app”) is designed to help users evaluate the value of products using advanced analysis tools. Your privacy is our highest priority. This policy outlines how we collect, process, and securely store data within our centralized product network.
1. Account Information & Authentication To provide a seamless experience and sync your scan history across devices, Worth Scan requires users to authenticate using Google Sign-In.
Profile Data: When you sign in, we receive basic profile information provided by Google, which typically includes your name, email address, and profile picture. This data is used exclusively to create and maintain your Worth Scan account profile.
2. Product Database & AI Processing To provide comprehensive product evaluations, the app utilizes a centralized cloud database (Google Firebase/Cloud Firestore), the Open Food Facts public database, the Groq API, and the Gemini API (for Premium features).
Standard Processing & Crowd-Sourced Data: When you use the standard analysis features (powered by the Groq API), the scanned barcode and the resulting AI-generated analysis are saved to a centralized, shared registry. This allows the app to instantly provide information to future users who scan the same item.
Premium Processing (Gemini API): For users utilizing our Premium tier, product analyses are generated using the Gemini API. In strict compliance with API usage policies, data and analyses generated via the Gemini API are processed in real-time and are not cached, saved to the centralized public database, or shared with other users.
De-Identified Contributions: While your personal account is authenticated via Google, any product information you contribute to the centralized, public-facing database (via standard scans) is strictly de-identified. Your name, email, and profile picture are never publicly attached to the barcode entries you generate.
Data Sources: The app queries public product registries, including the Open Food Facts database, to retrieve objective ingredient and nutritional information.
AI Privacy: Product details are securely processed via the Groq API or Gemini API to compile the analysis. No personal user data, account details, or tracking identifiers are ever passed to these AI models.
3. Permissions Required To function properly, the app requires the following device permissions:
Internet Access: Required to query the centralized product database, send requests to our AI backend, and download product analysis.
Camera Access (if applicable): Used strictly to scan barcodes in real-time. The live video feed is processed locally on your device to extract the barcode number and is never recorded, stored, or streamed to our servers.
4. Data Sharing, Advertising, and Third Parties We maintain strict boundaries regarding your personal data and your usage of the app:
Infrastructure Partners: We utilize Google Firebase, the Open Food Facts public database, and the Groq API to securely host, retrieve, process, and authenticate the app's core data.
Advertising Partners (Google AdMob): To support the ongoing development of Worth Scan, we use Google AdMob to display advertisements, including rewarded video ads. AdMob automatically collects certain device information, such as your IP address and mobile advertising identifiers (e.g., Google Advertising ID). This data is used to provide, maintain, and improve ad serving and, where permitted, to show personalized ads.
EU User Consent: For users located in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK, we use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request your explicit consent for personalized advertising and the use of cookies. You can manage, change, or revoke your ad privacy choices at any time by navigating to the "Data & Privacy" section in the app's Settings.
Protection of Scan Data: We do not sell, trade, or lease your specific product scan histories, account details (like your email address), or database entries to third-party advertisers, data brokers, or marketing networks. Advertisers only receive the standard device identifiers necessary to serve ads within the app.
US State Privacy Rights (e.g., CCPA/CPRA): Under certain US state privacy laws, the collection of standard device identifiers by third-party advertising partners (such as Google AdMob) for the purpose of serving personalized advertisements may be broadly defined as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. You can opt out of this specific "sale or sharing" at any time by accessing the "Manage Ad Privacy" option in the app's Settings. We reiterate that your personal account details (like your email address) and your specific product scan histories are never sold, traded, or leased to data brokers or advertisers.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Product Catalog: Because product barcodes and AI-generated product analyses are part of a centralized, shared directory utilized by all app users, these objective product entries are retained permanently to support the app's functionality.
User History & Identifiers: The app assigns a unique identifier (UID) linked to your Google account to allow you to view your own past scan history. This history is stored securely in our cloud database.
Data Deletion Requests: You have full control over your data. You can instantly and permanently wipe your Google-linked profile and all associated personal scan histories directly within the app by navigating to the Settings menu and selecting "Delete Saved Profile & Data."
Alternative Deletion Method: If you have already uninstalled the app and wish to request that your backend data record be wiped externally, you may email us at the address listed below using the Google email address associated with your account. Upon verification, your profile and history will be permanently purged from our database.
6. Children’s Privacy Worth Scan does not knowingly collect or request data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
8. Contact & Data Requests If you have any questions regarding this privacy policy or wish to submit an external data deletion request, please contact: Email: app.worthscan@gmail.com
